Our Story
Our Dairy Flat property was purchased in 2000 where we originally grew capsicums. The property came with a 4000m2 greenhouse structure on it. After a year we built our first glasshouse extension of 5500m2 and continued our capsicum production until early 2005 when a virus unfortunately entered one of our capsicum crops meaning the production cycle of the plant would be largely reduced. This resulted in some brain storming and a trip to the local New World for our director Kees Van der Eijk. Eggplants caught his eye and after a few quick calls to consultants in Holland the decision was made to replace capsicums with eggplants. After a successful eggplant trial the business elected to replace all capsicums with eggplants.
Twenty years later our company now has around 43,000sqm under glass and is responsible for about 80% of New Zealand’s eggplant production. Our company provides eggplants to MG Marketing based in Auckland which then distributes to grocery stores New Zealand wide.
